RJ's Bulalohan - Mandaluyong

After we visited muffin at the hospital (the last time we saw her :-(  ), Martin and I decided to eat at RJ's Bulalo. It's just around the corner lang kasi and we wanted a hot soup. Since matagal narin namin gusto subukan ito. I ate here na once with my family, but that was so long ago. Elementary palang ata ako noon. I don't even remember ang taste. And baka nag-iba narin sa tagal ng panahon. Martin din daw ate here pero super tagal narin, sya naman baka highschool din daw or college. :D

So ito pala yung lugar. Merong non-smoking area, medyo loob. Tabi ng May nag videoke. When we went there, meron nag-iinom and videoke, lasing na sya kaya he sings funny. Natatawa tuloy yung mga kumakain. And they also have toddler chair pala incase you brought your child with you.

Talagang sikat parin ito. Ang daming kumakain. Family, friends, mga employees. RJ's bulalo is an open air. They have fan naman. And hindi mainit when we went there. Not sure lang pag summer and daytime. We went there over dinner.

Since three lang kami plus Kirsten's yaya. We ordered for 2 menu lang. We tried their sizzling seafood, and grabe! Ang sarap sarap lalo na ng sauce! MUST TRY!

And  their Special Bulalo. Presentation is not as nice like sa Leslie's in Tagaytay. Ganyan lang sya. :-) The soup is tasty. I just forgot the name. Ramirez Bulalo naman kasi is medyo sour. This one is good for 2-3pax depende sa appetite. Sa Anonas kasi nabitin ako sa meat. :-)

For the special bulalo (279), sizzling seafood (180), minute maid orange juice and 3 cups of rice, our total bill is 550. :-) I told Martin na dapat ganito lang mga nagagastos namin whenever we eat outside. :-) We're saving for something MORE special kasi, and syempre for our future! :-)

Vets in Practice: Animal Hospital and our Loss.

Last week, we rushed our shih tzu Muffin sa hospital. She was weak for 3 days and we can't no longer take seeing her like that. So we brought her sa Vets in Practice. Dapat the night before palang dinala na namin sya, pero they have additional emergency fees on top of your bill.
10pm-12mn 1,500
12mn-6am 2,000 or 2,500
6am-8am 1,500
During holidays 3,000
This is also where her mom cuddles, our first ever shih tzu and toy dog was confined for a week due to her severe condition. Her kidney and liver was badly damaged according to her veterinarian. But after a week of confinement, she collapsed. They tried to revive her, but she didn't survive. I love her so much that I even put a rosary on her cage. That was so painful for my family, lalo na sakin and kay mama. Sakin talaga si cuddles, hanggang sa naging super close sila ni mama na sya pa gumigising kay mama in the morning. Hay. Until now, I still cry whenever I remember her. Nagluksa talaga ako non. For some time, I don't want to talk, or hear anything about her, or see her photos. Masakit pa sa pinagsama samang break-ups.  It really made me feel sad. It took me years, for well at least move on.

For the same reason, muffin was confined. Her kidney was also damaged, but her liver is okay naman. They had series of tests kay muffin. First was the temperament ata yun. So they checked if that was the cause. The test costs 750 ata or 780. The result was negative naman. Next was blood chemistry. Which cost 2,200. The result showed that her kidney was damaged. So her veterinarian advised us to had muffin confined even for at least 3 days to flushed out the toxins from her kidney. Kaylangan syang i-swero and strict monitoring. Martin and I agreed.

This is their laboratory area.

Muffin confinement cost us 450/day (i'm not sure lang for the large breeds).

This is the confinement room sa ground floor. They have pa on the second floor.
Their visitation hour is 9am-8pm. Either you visit them on their room, or the staff will bring your pet sa lobby area.

One of their consultation rooms. They have I think 4-6 private consultation rooms.

Their reception area.

Muffin's attending physician is Doc Gina. They also have a wall where you can post your ads. May nakakatawa pa nga don, a male dog is looking for a girlfriend daw.

Lobby. Waiting Area.

They also sell stuffs for your pets.

Like Cuddles, Muffin didn't survived. Second day palang nya naka-confine, hindi na nya kinaya. The veterinarian called my husband that afternoon na muffine collapsed and they are trying to revive her. Martin rushed to the hospital, on his way, they called and said muffin didn't make it. Martin called and told me the news, I don't know what to say. Di ko alam what and how to react. Dati nung nawala si cuddles, they gave us options if cremate or sa dog cemetery sa cavite. We chose to bury her sa harap ng bahay namin sa small patio. That's the same thing we did for muffin. It's been 4 years since cuddles died, my father said binuksan daw ulit yung kay cuddles kasi bone narin daw yon and isama nalang si muffin sa nanay nya.

Wait.

I'm crying right now....

I don't want to see her. Even si cuddles di ko tinignan noon. My heart is bleeding.

Rest now my Muffindoggiedog. You're in dog heaven now with your mom. We'll miss you forever. Thank you for the joy and happiness you brought us. You'll be forever in our hearts. Thank You. I love you Muffin baby!

The last time we saw muffin. :-(

So I wanted to keep track of my goals and be able to achieve it.

So here's my lists.

Aside from our personal accounts, we should have a joint account which will serve as our savings where we will deposit funds for Kirsten's education which is prolly 1 1/2 years from now, for our new home/condominium down payment, extra savings and emergency funds.

Apply for Philippine Passport at DFA for Martin and Kirsten.

Secret haven for our little ones

For months now, I've been wanting to buy Kirsten an umbrella type or lightweight stroller. Kirsten is tamad to walk, and syempre what will you expect sa isang 2 years old. She always wanted to be carried, and the best but dead tiring part of it is, she wants me to carry her almost all the time. Lalo na pag nasa mall kami, she doesn't want her nanny or daddy to carry her. She'll say, "only mommy"! Minsan lang pag nauuto namin sya, pero seconds or minutes lang yon, and babalik sya sakin. Kirsten is heavy. Sabi nga nila, siksik liglig. She's not obese nor fat talaga, but she's H-E-A-V-Y! Waley budget! Minsan nga gusto ko i-ask mga nakakasalubong ko where did they bought the stroller, hiya lang ako baka isagot sakin "who you?!" Or isipin may modus ako! Hehe! I'm not a fan of second hands talaga for kirsten, ewan ko. Feeling ko kasi it should be special and kala ko pag second hand luray luray na. Hindi pala! Basta makakita ka lang ng maayos.

So sa paghahanap ko, marami pala maayos na second hand na mura, bet ko yung mga strollers ng Maclaren, marami ako nakita, and considering my  budget,  the winner goes to.....tanaaan!!!

I found this while searching for a stroller in google. This is a Maclaren Volo stroller which costs 3,800 but I haggled for 3,500. The next day, I went kagad sa shop and I'm amazed na I didn't only found the stroller that I've been looking for. I found a place that I called secret haven for our little ones. They sell second hand stuffs for babies and kids like slides, strollers, toys, seat booster, car seat, potty trainer, bath tub, crib, high chairs and a lot more! Some looks really new, some is in excellent condition, may iba na may minimal defect pero lahat ay useable. The place is just inside an old building in makati. It's not aircon kaya mainit talaga. They said that the owner is a foreigner. Yung namanahala dun is his secretary daw whom people call her "mommy". Mukang residential yung place, may mga helper sya, I'm not sure if relatives nya nga yun but lahat sila naka pambahay lang. Most of then wore sandos lang. The secretary just sends message to the owner if mag ha-haggle kayo, okay naman. Nakatawad kami kahit paano. Here's the place...

As you can see, lahat yan nakabalot. Nakakahiya kalkalin lahat and open to check what's inside lalo na yung small toys nasa isang malaking plastic bag. Pero okay lang daw basta wag mahiwa-hiwalay. I suggest, before you visit the store, try to check their items here in their facebook page  Japan Junk Shop Facebook Page

Before we went there, I told kirsten that we're going to buy toys kaya hindi nya nakalimutan, on our way, we asked her if she wants to go to jollibee, she said, "No, only toys". And nung nandun kami, she's busy magtingin tingin ng toys and she even removed her slippers, sat on the floor and play with toys. So, aside from the Stroller, she went home with this.

This costs 650, we haggled for 500. Di daw nagrereply yung boss nya which is true naman kasi I tried calling him, keeps on ringing lang. So 600 lang namin nakuha. Pag bumalik daw ako sabihin ko daw ako yung bumili ng dollhouse maybe she can give us additional discount. :D

I want these also! :D

I'm happy I found this place and I will definitely go back there. I want to buy more! :D

Cravings : Shangri-La Plaza Mall

Martin and I attended a christening of our friend's son at St. Francis de Assisi Church in Mandaluyong. Dito rin ako bininyagan! :D Reception followed at Cravings, located at 5th level of Shangri-la plaza mall. It was our first time to eat here.

They have a very small function room for private occassions which I think can only accomodate 40-50pax. I like the interior but it was dim. For me nakakaantok ang vibe. Okay siya for a romatic date but for a party or gathering, medyo malungkot ang aura para sakin. For excess naman they can sit outside.

Buffet style. Filipino food ang menu. But they have cakes that looks so yummy na naka display. I was really tempted to buy pero namamahalan ako. :D

The foods are delicious. We had
Kaldereta, tinola na ang sarap,
Seafood inasal, pakbet, (I didn't tried pakbet kasi madalas naman kami kumain non sa bahay and sa presentation parang kulang ng sahog para sakin.
Crispy pata na pati buto nginuya namin.
Rice and pansit. Tastes like pinaghalong gulaman and iced tea na matabang. Labo no? Weird. But okay na rin syang venue for a simple gathering like christening.

They serve seperate foods for the kids, and they also offers party packages.

Wedding Suppliers Part 2 (12.5.12)

As I promised, here's our wedding suppliers part 2!

Gretchen Enriquez (Pre-nup photoshoot HMUA) 5***** – Gretchen is a sister of my friend’s boyfriend.  Ever since worry ko talaga ang pag me-make up, sobrang bihira as in lang ako matuwa sa pagkaka make-up sakin. Minsan kasi feeling ko I looked matanda or bakla. I’m not really a make-up person, feeling ko mas okay sakin yung fresh lang. :D She did two peg, yung isa pang sweet na vintage ang dating and yung isa is yung ala Manilyn Monroe sana pero di ko na-achieve. Haha! No, nakuha nya yung gusto kong make-up. I feel so beautiful and regal. :D She’s easy to work with, walang arte at aalagaan ka nya, panay pa ang paypay nya sakin and she even took photos habang nag shoot kami with Osep and MiMi para daw may behind the scenes. She’s really good.

Contact Live Photography Clip Photobooth  (Photo Booth) 4****
Martin and I discovered CLP during one of the wedding fair. I love the quality of their photo. I love the layout,  I gave them sample peg nakuha naman nila yung gusto ko. Hindi ko masyadong masabi if super okay sila during our wedding since once lang namin sila na-visit sa sobrang pagka busy. And infairness, medyo late na ng nakapag pa photobooth kami tinawag lang nila kami and they waited for us kasi nga their time is up. They extended couple of minutes din ata. I love how the photos turned out. But I gave them 4 lang, because sa contract, we availed the ref magnet na klase 4R size. But we ended up getting the simple one yung paper lang nakalagay. Then maybe, as a bonus, they gave us additional Save the date ref magnets which hindi naman sya masyadong malaking bagay for us kasi we booked them medyo malapit narin ang wedding we don't need it na kaya hindi kami nag avail. Then nakita ko nalang some, or yung primary sponsors meron na silang ref magnet na save the date. But the photo quality is good. :)

JCA Vintage Car Rental (bridal car) 5*****
I love our bridal car! Pinaglaban ko talaga to kay Martin. His cousin daw nung wedding nila, ito rin daw ang ginamit na car, so ayaw  nya ng same. Eh I told him na ours is different and this is my dream wedding car. So pinagbigyan nya parin ako. We visited their house and andon lahat ng vintage car na for rental. I was, I mean, we were amazed! Pinaandar pa nga nung guy na may ari yung ibang options namin. Sobrang bait nung mag-asawa, very accommodating and down to earth Meron isang sikat na rental ng vintage car, sakanila daw galing yun kasi nephew ata nila yun and he asked them if pwede nya parentahan, of course mas mahal ng konti kasi may dagdag sya. Sakanya kami una nag inquire, but nalang nahanap namin ang tunay na may-ari. This car costs 12k-13k dun sa isa, then nakuha lang namin sakanila ito ng 10k for 3 hours and 2k for succeeding hours. Sa sobrang traffic and natagalan kami sa photo ops, we ended up paying 14k. Pero okay lang super sulit. And the driver sobrang bait nya, he helped me paano mabawasan ang kaba. Pinasigaw pa nga nya ako eh. Super worth it!

Sugar Artist (wedding cake) 4.5****
Hindi ako ang nakipag usap sakanila, kasi our wedding cake was a gift from Martin's Aunt. Friend nya angmay ari.  I don't know din how much this one cost. Maganda sya pero siguro lang I expected more since marami syang ginagawang cakes even sa mga artistas. Pero all in all, nagustuhan ko sya. :)

How do you discipline your child?

Last July 19, I attended a what we call crash session of Positive Discipline Orientation on parenting with the Nawies. A Nawies is a private family support group. Nag start sya sa weddings at work where bride and grooms to be, help each other prepare for their dream wedding. Thanks to Ms. Benz and Sir Abet who started this community.

It was called crash session kasi this should be a 4 days orientation, but one day lang namin sya. It was held at Max Restaurant in Greenhills. I was kind of hesitant at first kasi feeling ko too early pa for me since Kirsten just turned 2 years old last May 9, 2012. But thanks and I pushed through.

Because there is what they called, Building Blocks of Healthy Development na magstart sa Infancy. So this early palang, kaylangan ng ma-develop ang child's Trust and Attachment.

Our speaker for that day is Ms. Wilma Banaga from Save the Children. They are doing this for free.

So what is Positive Discipline ba?

What is a Corporal Punishment?

The first country that prohibited corporal punishment is Sweden nung 1979. And now, 38 countries had implemented this. Nung 23 countries palang daw, Philippines started to pass the bill na, lagi daw na a-approved sa congress but hindi sa senate. Ngayon, meron ulit pinasa on going na. Let's See. :-)

Before, I thought corporal punishment is Disciplining your child physically lang. But no, corporal punishment is also verbally and emotionally. Like shouting, saying hurtful words, things that will hurt them, not only yung physically hurting them. And even the "stand in the corner" strategy pala is also a kind of corporal punishment. Some of us thought that this will make them realize their mistake, but little did we know they are thinking of revenge and resentment.

So what our children feels and think whenever we do corporal punishment?

And more likely,

And learn,

Isn't its scary?

Paano ba ang Positive Discipline. It is to provide calmness, structure and WARMTH.

In providing warmth, we are teaching our children long term values.

One of our activity was to list down what do we want to teach to our children . Their personalities, values and character when they grow up. Do we want them to be Confident? Respectful? Loving? Selfless? God fearing loving? This is a long term values. Start teaching them these values as early as infancy by providing warmth.

So how can we do that?

We were grouped into 3 and each group was given a case.
For our group:

"You have an appointment with the doctor, it's raining and you told your two year old child to wear his coat. He refuses to wear it. It's running late and you need to hurry."

So this is our group's answers.
Discaimer: This is just how far as I can remember.
  • Problem: We'll be late to our doctor's appointment
  • Why He/she behave this way:
    • He doesn't like the coat
    • He was interrupted with what he is doing
    • He is still not feeling well
  • Long term goals:
    • Be a confident person
    • Eliminate the fear of seeing a doctor
    • Obey
  • How to provide warmth and structure.
    • Ask him why? Ask him if he doesn't like the coat? He can chose the coat that he want.
    • Tell him that we have to see the doctor so that he'll get better. And after that he can continue in what he is doing
    • He can bring his toys/art materials if that what he is doing
    • Show the clock and try to tell him "If this arrow is in number 6, we have to go" (This will also develop his sense of time.
As you can see, there are lots of possible problems and answer because at this age, he still can't express/say how he feels, so 2 years old mostly do is to throw tantrums. Because that's how they react in certain situations that they can't even explain. They can't say that I'm feeling sick, I'm lazy, I'm hungry. With infants, their way of communication is with their crying. Kaya don't get upset easily, try to figure out first bakit ganoon, because there is ALWAYS a reason.

And when you say "NO", don't tell your child "just because I said so". Explain to him why, the cause and effect.

\
During our orientation, somebody asked pala, what if nasa adolescent stage na sila? Ms. Wilma said, just go back sa period of building Trust and Attachment.

We have this activity rin na we have to stand in the direction which feeling namin is ganon ang anak namin. And next, ganoon kami.

With distractibility, I stood in the middle. Kasi I can focus for a long time naman, depende. Like right now, I am sitting infront of my laptop for 6 hours now.

I think with this, medyo same kami ni Kirsten, minsan din hindi mo yun magugulo.

Here, si Kirsten yung type na loses interest in activities quickly, siguro at her age, masyado pang mataas yung curiosity and ang pag explore ng things.

With intensity, hay naku! Dun ako sa shows intense sadness, anger and happiness. Sabi nila, aquarius daw ako kaya moody and may topak. Haha! Pag irritated, hay naku konting bagay lang naiinis ako kagad and my husband napapansin na yung eyes ko daw umiirap.

Same kami ni kirsten, kanina we're on our way to St. Lukes with my MIL, mula sa bahay hanggang makabalik kami ng house, nakabusangot muka, and when we asked her if she wants to eat at Jollibee, she said "NO!" which normally kapag jollibee and pinag uusapan at nakita nya, she screams na and naalala nya yung birthday nya na we celebrated sa Jollibee. When she's happy, super hyper.

These traits/character daw ay namamana. So reflect if kanino namana ng bata yon. :-)

Practicing Positive Discipline is not easy lalo na kung inis na inis kana and gusto mo ng tirisin. Sugat na ata lips ko everytime I bite my lips whenever nangigigil ako sa kulit ng anak ko. Kirsten is nuknukan ng kulit. Mahirap pagsabihan, one time her yaya told me "Ate bakit ganon si kirsten, kapag hindi nakukuha yung gusto nananakit.." Natakot ako, I don't want kirsten to grow up a brat and hurting people. So I opened this and asked Ms. Wilma. Repetition lang daw. Repetition is the key. Everytime she hits her yaya or me, or kung sino, tell her not to do that because that is not right. One of the attendees suggests na when she's about to hit one of us, himasin daw hands /arms nya and tell her "gentle baby.. gentle"..

Our session started with an activity to which we where asked,

What it feels like to be a parent?

Happy, Exhausting, Tiring, Blessed, Wonderful, Amazing, LOVE, Depressing, Scary, Frightening..........etc.

Ms. Wilma said, whenever we feel so upset or exhausted, or any not so good feeling of being a parent, always remember the good ones. The LOVE, the joyful feeling, the happiness, and we are blessed that we became a parent of this wonderful child.

How about you? What it feels like to be a parent?

They have a book for Positive Discipline for everyday parenting and Positive Discipline for Teachers/Educators. But from Canada pa yon and pricey ata. They have free e-book naman. Let me know if you wanted a copy of this book. You may leave your e-mail address below and I'll send it to you. :-)

Let's practice POSITIVE DISCIPLINE!!
